Mercedes-Benz's R-Class sports-utility vehicle/people carrier is as close to an executive jet on wheels as you'll find in any showroom. The roomy interior comes standard with three rows of dual captain's chairs (though the third row of seats has no walk space like the second row has). Available in R320 CDI diesel and R350 gasoline variants, the R-Class is pared down by two models from 2007 with the deletion of the top-range R63 AMG and the V8 R500. All variants now feature a standard AMG-badged bodykit and 18' wheels, which makes the R320 CDI the only diesel-engined Mercedes-Benz to feature AMG equipment.
A Premium I package includes Parktronic reverse sensing, Tele Aid, a hands-free communication system, harman/kardon audio and a large glass panorama roof, among other features. The Premium II package upgrades the I package with DVD-based navigation, a rearview camera, auto dimming mirrors, power, memory seats, folding mirrors and steering wheel. For the true hedonist, the Premium III package adds a three-zone automatic climate control and infrared reflecting exterior glass.
Heated seats and steering wheel, extended leather upholstery, 19' wheels, rear seat entertainment system and Distronic adaptive cruise control are among other major options for the R-Class.
